The total ~US$160 million investment is expected to be financed through federal and state grants, plus contributions from Broward County , FPL, and the three participating cruise companies. Construction works are scheduled to start in 2024-Q2 and be completed in 2027-Q4. Port Everglades' cruise ship tourism-related operations have a total annual economic value of nearly USD 30 billion. It is accounted for approx 160,000 jobs (port-related businesses), including ~11,400 jobs in companies directly providing services to the port. On average, each cruise vessel generates approx USD 2,2 million in revenue for local businesses. In late-October 2019 was approved the agreement for Brightline Miami to be rebranded "Virgin Trains" and Virgin Group to build a train station (Virgin Trains PortMiami) at the cruise port.

Midport Cruise Terminals
With the new terminal, this capacity was expected to increase to ~2 million. RCCL later added to the project another building (named "Innovation Lab") that serves as the corporation's headquarters. Innovation Lab is sized 1860 m2 (20,000 ft2) and also hosts the company's ship design studio. In September 2015, the world's second-largest cruise ship company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd/RCCL announced its plans to build a US$100 million terminal at PortMiami.
Cruise Terminal 2 (Princess Cruises)
The renovation and extension allow the handling of larger-sized (including Carnival's newest) vessels. As part of the addendum, Carnival Corporation receives preferential berthing at Terminal 4. RCG (which also owns Celebrity Cruises) homeported Celebrity Edge here, starting turnaround operations in 2018 (on December 1st). The new T25 terminal (in Hollywood FL) was officially inaugurated with the ship's arrival (on November 20th). The grand ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCG's President and CEO) and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity's President and CEO), plus key cruise brand executives and local officials. All cruise terminals at Midporth provide usual facilities like disabled access, luggage handling, free areas for seating, automated gangway bridge (for passenger embarkation/disembarkation), restrooms, vending machines.
(NEW) NCL-Norwegian Cruise Terminal B
In early-June 2017 was announced that Port Everglades invests USD 114+ million in Terminal 25's renovations. This is the preferential berth for RCG-Royal Caribbean Group ships. In June 2018, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) installed an advanced sensor system designed for real-time monitoring of tides, water currents, sea levels and other meteo information at Port Everglades. The new "Port Everglades Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System" provides online data accessible to private boaters and commercial users.

Brooklyn cruise terminal's shorepower
In August 2018, NYC Ferry launched a link between Soundview (South Bronx) and Manhattan. The landing site in Bronx is at Clason Point Park (Sound View Ave's end). The nearest subway station (Morrison Ave-Sound View) is 2 mi (3 km) away. In Manhattan, ferries stop at 90th St (Upper East Side), East 34th Str (Midtown), Pier 11 (Wall Str). In the previous year (2017) NYC Ferry inaugurated the commute ferry service linking Manhattan with Long Island (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Bronx).

Various studies on LNG bunkering were conducted, regarding whether these operations (LNG supply to berthed vessels) to be land or water-side. The port expects to receive its first LNG-powered cruise liner in 2022. On November 5, 2016, in Port Canaveral arrived its ever largest passenger ship - Oasis of the Seas. The mega-liner docked at the new "Cruise 1 Terminal" (inaugurated in December 2014). Oasis OTS was homeported here replacing the smaller Freedom OTS. They were among the Port's first cruise facilities and can handle not more than 1900 passengers.
Seabourn Cruises unveils 2025-2026 itineraries with Japan Foliage and Caribbean voyages

On December 9, 2018 (Sunday), the port reported its ultimate one-day record for cruise shipping traffic - 52,000 passengers. Port Canaveral's cruise terminals serve several major cruise shipping companies. Terminal 5 is the homeport for ships of RCI-Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, NCL-Norwegian, Marella UK.
CRUISES FROM FORT LAUDERDALE
For comparison, the Port's annual revenues are US$1,2M (from cargo activities) and US$9,5M (from cruise shipping). Located at the Dodge Island north part are terminals B/C, D, E , F, G, on the west is terminal H (V) and on the south – terminal J. The luxury market is operated by cruise terminal J - facility made to look like a boutique. All passenger terminals offer cafes, check-in, shops, bars and cab ranks. The project's budget is USD 163 million (initially estimated cost was US$150M), of which US$50M contributed by Carnival Corporation. In December 2017, Port Canaveral completed the 6-month long West Turning Basin deepening project, now allowing max draft of 45 ft (13,7 m).
In December 2021 the Port signed with DCL-Disney a 15-year agreement (2023 thru 2038) for upgrading Terminal 4 (US$35M investment) to allow homeporting a larger liner (max passenger capacity 3500) for year-round roundtrips. This followed Disney's decision to change homeporting to Port Everglades from Miami. The first ship (Disney Dream) started year-round homeporting here on November 20, 2023.
FY2018 (Sept 2017-Sept 2018) was another (4th consecutive) record year, with 5,8% growth in containerized cargo volumes (total 1,084 million TEUs) and 4,7% increase in cruise shipping (total 5,592 million passengers). Cargo shipping growth was attributed to the seaport's USD 1 billion investments in infrastructure improvements that allowed handling of Post-Panamax ships (with min draft 12 m / 40 ft). In 2018, the port handled over 250 such vessels, following a deep dredging project and the installation of Super Post-Panamax gantry cranes. Cruise shipping growth was attributed to expanded business opportunities (adding 3 new cruise companies - Viking Ocean, Seabourn, Victory Cruise Lines), extended homeport seasons and homeporting larger passenger liners.
In 2021, at the new CT3 Terminal was homeported Carnival's newest and largest (LNG-powered) liner Mardi Gras. In December 2017, Carnival Cruise Lines announced the homeporting of Carnival Elation in 2019. Starting May 12, 2019, the ship operates year-round scheduled 4-5-day "long weekend" Bahamas cruises. Departures are on Thursdays (4-day itinerary to Freeport and Nassau) and on Mondays and Saturdays (5-day itinerary to Amber Cove Dominicana and Grand Turk Island).
Under the agreement, RCCL fully financed the construction, except US$15M that PortMiami paid for infrastructure/road works. On May 4, 2018, from Barcelona were delivered two large passenger boarding bridges. Tailor-made for "Terminal F’", each bridge is 2-ton and 4-sectioned (telescopic), with length 32 m (105 ft). Especially for Disney Cruise Line ships was built Cruise Terminal 8. The 20-month-long, multi-phased project included 5 separate contracts.
In early-December 2018, Port Everglades and Empresa Nacional Portuaria de Honduras (Honduras Port Authority) signed an MOU as part of the Sister Seaports Program. Honduras is Port Everglades' largest trade partner by shipping volume, including total TEUs. Over USD 2,12 billion worth of goods are annually shipped through the seaport.
